The latest lot of P2 WU are giving trouble on my pc (4770s 3.9GHz 32GB) and this morning first thing there were a dozen Windows (7) error messages, the BOINC manager window was blank and all CPU activity had stopped. I suspected a memory problem with the P2 WU, so I let it run again and watched. Sure enough, the memory use was spiking to near 100% before the local settings kicked in. I have limited BOINC to 65% of the available memory, and it was overshooting for several seconds before the manager caught up and reduced the memory use. Eventually, the BOINC manager window went blank and the WU "completed" after just a few seconds runtime.

There has been a massive memory use spike and the BOINC manager window is empty, and the CPU activity has stopped. Upon restarting, all appears normal, but the runtime of the "completed" WU is mostly a few seconds.

I think I will have to kill all these P2 as it looks like few will complete without error.

It seems that BOINC doesn't detect fast enough that the workunits consumes more memory than configured for BOINC.
You are already using the latest BOINC version.

I think it would help if BOINC doesn't start many workunits at the same time. Instead a delay of e.g 10s should be introduced.

Can you switch on the mem_usage_debug log and send the log?
In theory BOINC should not run more than 2 of them.

OK, I've activated the memory log, at the moment it is only crunching one P2, but it has a few to do in a group and once it has done them I'll forward the log, probably tomorrow (2nd). Previously it has done more than two P2 simultaneously, the errors I reported above were from an instance of multiple P2 WU running. The image "BOINC crash 280918 null uploads" shows seven P2 going at the same time.

OK, here's the log as pdf. From the screenshot you can see it is crunching three P2 simultaneously and has throttled the cpu.
