Gut, dann vermute ich tatsächlich zuwenig verbleibende CPU-Zeit für den FAH-Client, bei Virtualisierung könnte es helfen bestimmte Cores für die einzelne VM zu bündeln, um "Reibungsverluste" zu vermeiden, welche genau hängt von der jeweiligen Quad-Architektur ab, wir hatten das Thema mal hier im Forum, einfach recherchieren. Beim Kentsfield glaube ich mich erinnern zu können war es asymetrisch, die Core-Nummern: 0+2, 1+3. Evtl. steigt durch die Bündelung die Performance und als eine (negative) Konsequenz fällt für das Wirt-System noch weniger CPU-Zeit ab (die du für die FAH-Clients benötigtst). Ergo kontraproduktiv. Austesten.

wenn ich dem clienten seine 5 prozent cpu auslastung verweigere, dann dürfte die gpu auch nur um 5 prozent langsamer werden, oder?
aktuell sind es ja um die 15 prozent pro karte........

Seit einigen Tagen sind neue SMP2-Cores in der Testphase:
News vom 01.12.09: SMP2 core update

• "We are excited to announce progress in our testing of new SMP2 cores. These cores use threads-based parallelization instead of MPI and, we hope, should be much more robust than our first-generation SMP cores."

Schon wieder 14 Tage her, hat jemand hier im Forum diese neuen Cores in Bearbeitung ?

Weiter unten heißt es:

• "In conjunction with this release, we are implementing some updates to our points benchmarking system. In particular, we will use early-completion bonuses, which we have been testing with the bigadv work unit program, more extensively for SMP2 cores."

Das klingt nach Korrekturen mit unvorhersehbaren Auswirkungen, die Kritik am alten GPU benchmarking system etwa war häufig ein Thema, im FAH-Forum konnte ich leider keinen Thread zu diesem Teil der News finden.

Es tut sich was, Intel-CPUs haben derzeit noch Vorteile, kurzer Link zu

Protomol FAQ

• "This new core implements the NML (Normal Mode Langevin) method which accelerates the long-time dynamics of the proteins by a factor that can reach speeds up to a hundred times faster than those of molecular dynamics. (...)"
• "On the technical side, this core is able to take advantage of most modern CPU optimizations (SSE2, SSE3, SSSE3, SSE4.1 and SSE4.2), however, a few compatibility issues are still present on AMD processors, resulting in the core only using SSE2 on these chips. This should change in the not-too-distant future when the issues have been worked out. If you have a processor that doesn?t have the above mentioned optimizations (Pentium 3, Athlon XP, etc.), please report the behavior and the performance of this core on your machine. (...)"

Die Beschreibung im offiziellen Core-Wiki ist noch lückenhaft, laut der "Core Information" stehen derzeit folgende Betriebssystem-Unterstützungen zur Verfügung:
- Linux/x86
- Linux/x86_64
- Windows/x86

fah will sse4 unterstützung anbieten? das galaub ich erst wenn die erste wu gelaufen ist......

Wer einen Yorkfield oder Penryn zuhause hat (wegen SSE4), kann ja mal mit "-advmethods" versuchen, das Herunterladen des neuen Core anzustoßen und einen Versuch zu machen. Im FAH-Forum sind Protokolle zu sehen, dass der Core läuft, ob die Abbrüche etwas mit dem Entwicklungsstand zu tun haben, keine Ahnung.

fah-addict schreibt dazu (Hervorhebung von mir):

• "The behaviour of Project 10001 has proven to be different from that which we usually see; sometimes, the simulation enters into a state where no further computation is possible, but which is not technically a folding error. This situation usually triggers, with other cores, an Early_Unit_End or an Unstable_Machine error. With the Protomol core, these states are expected and don't trigger an error. You'll see them with a WU reported as completed (Finished unit, core status = 64) before it reaches 100%. Don't worry if this phenomenon occurs on your machine; it is perfectly normal and expected."

Zurückerwartet wird eine WU innerhalb 1,8 bis 3 Tagen, siehe Project Summary, ganz unten. Pette Broad postet hier beispielhaft Laufzeiten, ich zitiere:

Ich habe eine P10001 WU erhalten. Die läuft bisher ohne Probleme. Bin schon bei 53 %.

Was wirft die eigentlich an Punkten ab, weil FAHMON die noch nicht erkennt.
